essays in protraiture

over the past weekend i have done quiet a bit of research for my upcoming project. it is all about faces ... i came across plenty of great sites with possible resources and ideas such as blurb, flickr and several other photographer's that gave their all to explore portraiture and share their vision with the world.

one very interesting encounter i have experienced looking at books on blurb.com
i have entered the world and work of sanders mcnew, a fellow new york photographer with a brilliant vision and a matching book to go with it Double Exposures: Essays in Portraiture (click on the image to check it out but be aware of the nudity)

Milton Glaser's SVA:

Reception: September 15, 6-8pm

Visual Arts Gallery
601 West 26 Street, 15th floor
New York, NY 10001

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Milton Glaser’s SVA: A Legacy of Graphic Design,” a 50-year retrospective of nearly 100 works created by the legendary designer for the College, where he has been on the faculty since 1960 and currently serves as acting chairman. The exhibition will include the original artwork for the iconic posters seen by generations of New Yorkers as part of SVA’s ongoing subway campaign, preparatory sketches that will be on public view for the first time, and rare printed pieces like the 1963 announcement for the course Glaser taught at SVA with the late art director Henry Wolf. The exhibition is curated by Steven Heller, design historian and co-chair of the MFA Design Department, and Mirko Ilic, designer and faculty member in the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department. Beth Kleber, SVA’s archivist, researched and compiled the works in the exhibition, which is designed by Francis Di Tommaso, director of the Visual Arts Gallery. read more

flickr friday [face]

flickr friday is all about faces and faces = fascination.
it is our build.in business card, the entry gate into our world, the endless expressions and movement of muscles every second of our life define who we are and by the look of a unknown face we decide in split.second if like what we see or not. a face is the longest story ever told and it only ends with the final call to rest in peace. what would this world be without faces?

happy birthday to me!!!

its time to grown up .... another year has passed and i have collected plenty memories to add to my life story. one day i will write that book of life or perhaps make it a photography book. i am officially one year short of the "dirty thirty" but after all isnt the 30 the new 20??? with that said i feel good and believe my life is pretty much on track minus minor detours here and there on the road of life. i will enjoy my day and hope for many more to come.

birthday count down + one wish

in 11 days i will celebrate my birthday and with each year we grow and learn more about life ...

this year's journey moved me to ask for something different. it is all about supporting a cause that is very dear to me ... to make a long story short leukemia has touched my life and and i am asking you to spread the word, educate and donate to support the cause.

a year ago nobody could tell me i would face this but now i am on a mission to tell my story and help to find a cure to blood cancer. it all starts with awareness (to learn more click here) and also returning the support i received from doctors, organizations and others touched by it. the journey is not yet over but your help could make a change.

now let our actions speak louder than words and click on the image to support my birthday wish!
